The Almeida Revised and Corrected (ARC) was translated by João Ferreira de Almeida and is known as the Revised and Corrected Edition (1898, 2009). One of the characteristics of the ARC is its classical, practically erudite language. This translation values formal equivalence, that is, Almeida sought to reproduce in the translated text the formal aspects of the biblical text in its original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek). At the time when Almeida published his translation for the first time (ca. 1681), it was customary for translators to indicate in italic (slanted) type any and all words that needed to be inserted in the translation to give meaning to the text, which was faithfully preserved by the ARC. This edition contains an introduction to the books of the Bible, cross-references and translation notes.
